You can earn Bilt points on a mortgage. Here’s the messy part.
For years that was renters-only. Pay the servicer by ACH through Bilt, pick one housing switch, and the mortgage can earn points. You cannot run both paths.
Nobody told homeowners they could earn points on the mortgage. For years that was renters-only. Bilt changed it. You pay the servicer the way you already pay a bank. No card fee. Points can land on the biggest bill in the house.
The messy part is you have to pick a switch. There are two. You cannot run both.
Who this is for
A household with a mortgage (or rent, or HOA through Bilt), everyday spend they can put on one card, and a trip they actually intend to book. This is Palladium, the card I use. $495 a year.
Skip this if
You do not have a mortgage, rent, or HOA. You will not concentrate spend. You cannot use a $495 fee. You want a simple cash-back card and you will not transfer points to book a trip. If there is no trip in the next 12 months, do not apply for a card to “start earning on the house.”
How it works
Pay housing through Bilt, not by typing the card number into the servicer’s portal. Bilt gives you a routing number and account number in the app. You add that to the mortgage portal as a bank account, e-check, or ACH. The servicer sees a normal bank payment. Allow at least three business days so you do not eat a late fee. Bilt then pulls the money from the bank account you linked.
There is no transaction fee on rent, mortgage, or HOA paid this way. There is no annual cap on how much housing can earn. That is the part that used to be impossible for homeowners.
Points on that payment are not automatic 2x. Everyday spend on Palladium is 2x either way. Housing is a separate path, and you pick one in the app:
Housing-only (tiers). You do not earn the 4% Bilt Cash on everyday spend. At the end of the billing cycle, Bilt looks at how much non-housing spend you put on the card compared with that month’s housing payment.
25% of housing → 0.5x on the mortgage
50% → 0.75x
75% → 1x
- 100% or more → 1.25x
If you do not hit 25%, you are not in a tier. Terms still describe a 250-point floor per billing cycle. Confirm that on Bilt’s offer terms before you count on it. The multiplier is set at the end of the cycle. You do not click anything each month once the switch is set.
Bilt Cash path. You keep 2x on everyday spend and you earn 4% Bilt Cash on that same everyday spend. Housing tiers do not apply. You unlock housing points by spending Bilt Cash: $30 of Bilt Cash unlocks 1,000 points on $1,000 of housing, with a 1x cap on this path. If you do not have enough Cash, you only unlock the slice you can cover. Bilt Cash is not bank cash back. Up to $100 can roll to the next year. The rest dies on December 31.
You cannot run both. That is the whole complexity. Flip the switch. Live with it for the month. You can change it later. Do not try to game both in the same cycle.
Points are for a trip. Transfer 1:1 to airline and hotel partners when the award is actually bookable. Do not dump points into a portal to “see a number.”
What to do this month
If you already have Palladium: open the app. Add the Bilt routing and account numbers to the mortgage servicer as ACH. Send a payment with three days of slack. Pick one switch. Housing-only if you will put enough everyday spend on the card to reach a real tier and you do not care about Bilt Cash. Cash path if you want the 4% and you will actually spend Cash to unlock the mortgage. Then leave it alone.
If you do not have the card: only apply if a trip is on the calendar and you will put the household on this card. The welcome offer is not the reason. Confirm the live offer on bilt.com/card/palladium before you hit submit.
What not to do
Do not type the Bilt card number into a portal that charges 3%. That is how you pay a fee and skip the product. Do not pay the mortgage from a card that is not Bilt and hope the points appear. Do not leave the switch on Cash and wait for tiers. Do not leave it on tiers and wait for 4% Cash. Do not carry a balance to “earn more.” Do not apply because a roundup called it the best card of 2026.

The mechanism is the post. Which switch to flip for your mortgage, with your spend, is a different piece. That household version is for members.
Pay the house. Book the trip that’s already on the calendar.
